Colchester JKA is a not-for-profit karate club based at  Alderman Blaxill School and Colchester Leisureworld, practicing traditional Shotokan Karate. As a family run club - we welcome adults and kids (from age 6).

The club is affiliated to the Japan Karate Association of England (JKAE) part of the Japan Karate Association (JKA), the most prestigious karate association in the world.

It was Colchester JKA Karate Club's third Kyu Grading which was held on 16th June. Sensei Adel Ismail (JKA 5th Dan) took an advanced and a general class of 40 plus members through their paces, concentrating on basic techniques, kumite and kata including Kanku-Dai. The grading was conducted afterwards, the quality of karate displayed was of a very high standard, congratulations to the following: More

The JKA England National Championships will be held on Sunday 6th July 2008 at the usual Guildford venue.

This event is open to JKAE Brown & Black Belts and ALL eligible members are encouraged to participate. Please have entries in by Thursday 19th June.

JKA Spring 08 International Course

The JKA Spring '08 Karate Course was held in Guildford from Friday 2nd through to Monday 5th May.  The special guest instructors this year were Osaka Sensei (8th Dan), Omura Sensei (7th Dan), Ohta Sensei (6th Dan) and multiple time world Kata champion and the first female instructor to attend our course, Nakata Sensei (4th Dan).  The attendees were split into four groups and the instructors rotated each day so that all could benefit from their expertise.

A big congratulations to Ernst & Hefer on passing their black belt examinations at the Wellingborough Brown and Black belt course on Sunday 16th March.

Sensei Ohta (JKA 6th Dan) concentrated on basic techniques, kumite and kata including Jion and Nijushiho. Luckily for the brothers' parents, there no arguments in the car on the way home!!
